Terri M. ...There are 2 basic concepts - multiply by "ONE" and balancing equations. That's it! (OK, maybe some combining like terms and such...) The hardest part in understanding Algebra is seeing these basics and that's what I focus on when I tutor this subject. My experience in Excel comes from being a pension actuary about 10 years ago, but don't assume I'm rusty.
