...When we do problems, I like to work a few out with a student and explain what I'm doing in each step and why. Then I slowly hand the reigns off to the student to work through the problems more and more independently while explaining back to me what they're doing. This way I know the student is learning the material properly and will be able to work without my help in the future. (read more)

...I also like to help the student step by step at first to prevent frustration with mistakes. As they begin to grasp the concepts more and more I think it is best to begin to let them attempt on their own, and then help them find and correct mistakes. This allows their mind to begin to adapt to being more careful and giving attention to the details that can commonly trip up a problem. (read more)
