...The PDP8 required toggling each 12-bit instruction in machine code (ones and zeros) using twelve switches on the front of a unit the size of a mini-fridge. The "hard drive" back then was a teletype that produced a ticker tape of each line of code. I learned to program with machine code and very much appreciate the advent of modern computing that makes all of this so much easier. (read more)
