...Lately though my tutoring has of course changed to the online format. While this is definitely more challenging, it does provide the opportunity to tutor a much wider group of students. ...I have taught math exclusively for the past 20 years- general math for grades 6-8, pre-algebra for grades 7 and 8, and Algebra I for students in grades 8 and 9. Although I was a bit hesitant to teach math as my primary subject, I welcomed the challenge and jumped in with both feet- and I'm glad I did. ...This challenged me to use techniques for beginning language skills (which we cover at 3-6 years in Montessori) but altered for 6-9 year olds. Luckily I had a lot of support and a fantastic assistant. My general philosophy of education is that the public school curriculum is something that ANY child can learn, given time, patience, and respect. (read more)
