In my experience, "finite math" is a bit of a hodge podge that different schools use to mean "anything but calculus" but at a level that is at or maybe even below the difficulty of calculus. I may have different approaching way to solve math problems, But, normally, I would follow professors' methods first since it was the way student may easier to understand.
