David Z. ...The benefit of MATLAB over other languages is in processing matrices, and processing matrices is what linear algebra is all about. I believe that I am qualified to teach this at the college level due to having with a PhD in physics as well as class and professional experience. My PhD in physics specializes in digital signal processing, which was primarily done using MATLAB.
