I would like to learn how kids interpret problems so I can be more helpful in developing their problem solving techniques. For tutoring, I like the students to use scrap paper and to approach each problem step by step.

John D. ...Either or both can be problems. I work with adults studying for the three years worth of exams to become a CFA. Given the amount of material, it is important for students to learn how to assess the importance of what they are reading and concentrate on the core issues, not the peripheral anecdotes.
