...In 2014-2015 I tutored several students in college algebra and trigonometry as part of a federal work study program at ITT Technical Institute. Most sessions were 1-on-1 but I've also held group sessions with up to 5 students at a time. I identified students' knowledge gaps and helped to fill those gaps by reinforcing the concepts and working through practice exercises. (read more)
...When I host office hours, I make sure to understand the students' thinking; by understanding their explanations, I can help them understand the content even better. I do not hesitate to stay a little bit longer and answer questions as my teaching assistants and professors did the same for me. I get to see the smile on their faces which brings me satisfaction. ...When tutoring, I normally connect class material to a student’s favorite topics. The topic can include hobbies, likes, interests, etc. I gain this information in our meet & greet to help shape our lessons. (read more)
