However, once I started in Calculus classes at Northwestern, I found that I really enjoyed math. The number one reason I became a teacher was that math was not always easy, but since I persevered through the high school curriculum, I was very successful at Northwestern.

Edward P. ...Wrapping up the study of arithmetic on whole numbers, exponentiation and order of operations (PEMDAS) are introduced. Knowing how to work with whole numbers well is the key to the bulk of a prealgebra course. The same skills (reading and writing, basic arithmetic operations, exponentiation and PEMDAS) are introduced for fractions, mixed numbers and decimals.
