...If you are starting to learn a programming language now, then I highly recommend that you learn Python instead of Matlab, simply because Python is becoming much more widely used. For some reason, my profile shows up when people search on Wyzant for Prolog. Although I did learn a bit of Prolog many years ago, I regret that I don't know enough to be able to tutor anyone in that. (read more)
