Ed K. ...Algebra is, in a sense, basic mathematical reasoning. If you start with the same thing on both sides of the equals sign, and you do the same thing to both sides, you'll end up with the same thing on both sides of an equals sign. If you do the opposite of an operation you just did, you can cancel and it still works out.
