...I currently use a mixture of Abeka's Handbook for Reading as well as some of my own tactics, which are firmly rooted in phonics-based learning. Starting with understanding and mastering letter sounds, we move to short vowel sounds followed by consonants. Afterward, we blend these together (which fosters so much accomplishment!) and then move on to long vowel sounds. (read more)
