...My approach is therefore to refer back to course materials or online resources so that the student can see the process taken to arrive at a conclusion. Consequently, I ask many of questions that lead the student to the answer. I also try to summarize the process of solving the problem once it is completed, because I find reviewing helpful in cementing the concepts just covered. (read more)
...I try to incorporate interesting problems or puzzles to help motivate why we want to do certain types of math. I do not generally "teach to the test" or memorize formulas, as I think those things are very short-term gains. Like riding a bike, math knowledge can stay with you for your whole life as long as it's built upon a solid foundation. (read more)
