...I think it's really important to understand the fundamentals of a subject before you advance to more complex material, and I emphasize this a lot in my teaching. I also try to point out the interesting aspects of a subject rather than treating it as an obstacle to graduation. This approach has helped me excel in and enjoy learning about a variety of topics.
