Ming-Yi S. ...I first introduce them to the simple concepts of reading musical notation and rhythms. Once they understand how to read music, I then teach them from playing scales with each hand and some simple pieces so they don't get too bored from just practicing the scales. I also like to use the Hanon books as they reinforces the importance of finger separation and the concepts of scales.
