Lea H. ...One strategy I have used when solving problems using a mix of positive and negative numbers is to have my students draw a number line on their paper for their reference. If they have an accurate visual they can count rather than counting in their head, they tend to find the correct answer. Another strategy I use is always asking "why" after they give me an answer.
