Trying to teach a concept or technique without the right supports beneath is merely postponing the problem until later. So often, once the root difficulty is found (and fixed!), a plethora of other problems and fears diminish or disappear.

I also limit the amount of time needed for each assignment by decreasing the total number of problems, utilizing breaks from the work, varying assignments, and minimizing distractions. I also assess the student's best modality of learning and then prescribe work based on that assessment.
