Evaluate and simplify y=2x+1/x+1 if x=1+h

this is what i got so far,

2(1+h)+1/(1+h)+1 ---> 2+h+1/(1+h)+1

and i'm stuck there. the way i did it doesn't seem right please help!

What you have posted means this:

. . . . . $y\, =\, 2x\, +\, \frac{1}{x}\, +\, 1$

Is this what you meant? Or did you mean one of the following?

. . . . . $\mbox{a) }\, y\, =\, \frac{2x\, +\, 1}{x}\, +\, 1$

. . . . . $\mbox{b) }\, y\, =\, 2x\, +\, \frac{1}{x\, +\, 1}$

. . . . . $\mbox{c) }\, y\, =\, \frac{2x\, +\, 1}{x\, +\, 1}$

then I don't get how you got the step you showed :confused:

plug the "1+h" in for all the "x"s
$y\, =\, \frac{2(1+h)\, +\, 1}{(1+h)\, +\, 1}$
then please SHOW your steps
like, how did you get 2(1+h)=(2)(1)+(2)(h) equal to 2+h not 2+2h?
