Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parall

Postby jpalmer11 » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:24 am

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have no idea where to start.

Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 80 mph and B at 84 mph. Train A passes the styation at 7:20 pm. If train B passes the same station at 7:50 pm, at what time will train B catch up to train A?

Thank you for any help.

Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks....

To learn how to set up and solve this sort of "uniform rate" exercise, please study this lesson.

Once you have learned the basic methodology, please attempt the exercise. (A good start will be to figure out how much of a "head start" Train A has, in having traveled at 80 mph for 0.5 hours.) If you get stuck, you can then reply with a clear listing of your steps and reasoning thus far. Thank you.
