I know that a square foot = 144 inches 12 x 12. How many inches in a square inch? For instance, if you had 17 square inches, would you multiply 17 x 17?

Actually, it is 144 square inches (or 144 inches squared). The expression "144 inches" means "144 inches long in a straight line", which does not apply to "area". :wink:
