Finding Width of a Pathway?

A rectangular garden of lenght 40 feet and width 20 feet is surrounded by a path of uniform width. If the area of the walkway is 325 ft2, what is its width?

Try using the set-up diagram displayed in this thread. 
In your case, of course, the length and width are given, and you're finding the width "x" of the pathway. So plug the given length and width into your diagram, in place of the "w" and "2w" in that picture, and plug "x" in for the "2".
Otherwise, the set-up and solution process are the same.
