If you pay \$525 for rent each month and you pay 35% of your monthly income for rent, what is your yearly income?
x-.35x+525
.65x=525
divide both sides by .65
x= 807.69
i then multiplied by 12 but didn't come close to answer -18,000
I have a basic math book with just basic definitions and problems, and I 've forgotten most of this stuff. If anyone knows of any good websites with detailed formulas and examples on how to solve math problems like this , it would be much appreciated.

It might help if you clarified your meaning. For what, exactly, does "x" stand? Then for what does "0.35x" stand? How about "0.65x"?

.35(percent of monthly income ) *525= 183.75
I honestly have no idea, i guess i that i wanted x to stand for monthly income. Does the above expression make more sense? I am very lost.

If "x" is "monthly income", then what is the meaning of "0.35x"? What should this be set equal to?

Treeclimber, looks like if your rent is 35% of monthly income, then your formula should be something llike this-> 525 divided by .35 will equal to X (monthly income)
Then to verify you take X (monthly income) and multiply by .35
