What have you tried? How far did you get? Where are you stuck?

You named the numbers, something maybe like "x" and "y", and used the ratio information:

. . . . .$\frac{x}{y}\, =\, \frac{3}{4}$

Then you noted that x + y = 98, so y = 98 - x, so:

. . . . .$\frac{x}{98\, -\, x}\, =\, \frac{3}{4}$

And... then what? Or, if you used some other method, what was it?

Please be complete. Thank you!

I am trying to find the two numbers whose sum is 98.
The answer guide says 42 and 56. I want to know how they came up with these two numbers.

for x. That will get you one number. Then you should be able to easily find the other.
