### How do you multiply mixed numbers?

Hello I need assistance multiplying mixed numbers. For example, how would I multiply 6-7/8 and 22-2/5 and 7-1/8, and then round to the nearest 1/5?

To multiply mixed numbers, first convert them to improper fractions. Multiply the improper fractions, and then convert the result back to mixed numbers. For instance:

. . . . .$1\,\frac{2}{3}\, \times\, 4\, \frac{2}{5}$

. . . . .$\frac{5}{3}\, \times\, \frac{22}{5}$

. . . . .$\frac{1}{3}\, \times\, \frac{22}{1}$

. . . . .$\frac{22}{3}$

. . . . .$7\, \frac{1}{3}$

To multiply mixed numbers.
1. Change the mixed numbers to improper fractions.
2.Multiply the fractions.
3. convert back to mixed numbers.

### Re: How do you multiply mixed numbers?

Here are the steps in order to multiply mixed numbers. I will include your example in each step.:
6 7/8; 22 2/5; 7 1/8

1. Convert all mixed numbers to improper fractions:
(55/8) (112/5) (57/8)

2. Multiply fractions top by top, bottom by bottom.

(55x112x57)/(8x5x8)

3.If required, convert the final improper fraction back into a mixed number:
(351120/320) reduces (4389/4). It is 1097 ¼ as a mixed number.

4. In order to write it with 5 as the denominator, convert ¼ into fifths. Use the proportion ¼ = x/5. Cross multiply, and 4x=5. Divide, and x=1.25. So the answer is the mixed number 1097 1.25/5 .

### Re: How do you multiply mixed numbers?

To multiply mixed numbers by any other number you must first convert the mixed number to an improper fraction. If you dont know how to convert the mixed number to an improper fraction you, you multiply the denominator by the whole number and then add the numerator to get your new numerator. The denominator stays the same. Multiply the numerators and then the denominatorsthen, put answer in lowest terms. Then convet back to a mixed number.
