Word Problem. I'm having trouble with this one.

Sailboat number one leaves the dock. Sailboat number two leaves 1 minute later. The captain of sailboat number two figures he can overtake sailboat number one by the time they reach the 4km buoy if he travels at 1km/h faster than sailboat number one. What are the speeds of the two sailboats when they reach the 4km buoy?

Try using the standard set-up and solution method for "uniform rate" word problems:

. . .first boat:
. . . . .distance: 4
. . . . .rate: r
. . . . .time: 4/r

. . .second boat:
. . . . .distance: 4
. . . . .rate: r + 1
. . . . .time: 4/(r + 1)

Then translate "(second boat's time) is (first boat's time) less (1/60 of a hour)" into an equation.

Solve the rational equation for the value of "r". Back-solve for the other boat's rate of speed.
