Help with linear equation

Postby NVCCTAM2774 on Thu Oct 01, 2009 12:29 am

I am having a hard time solving linear equations such as this one:

-1/6(x-18)+1/2(x+2)=x+28

I'm hoping someone can explain this to me in a not so complicated manner. Thanks

For an explanation of the general techniques for solving linear equations, try here.

At what stage are you having difficulty? You multiplied through by the common denominator to clear the fractions, leaving you with -(x - 18) + 3(x + 2) = 6x + 168, and... then what?

Please be complete. Thank you! :D
