### floor tiles: 12" by 12"; how many needed for 12ft by 31ft floor?

How many tiles will I need when covering a floor which measures 12ft by 31ft. The tiles are 12 inches by 12 inches.

my steps so far: 12 x 31 = 372 now since the tiles are in inches I need to convert that 372 feet into inches.
so 372 x 12 = 4464. Now divide that total inches by the total inches of a tile. since a tile is 12 by 12 which equals 144 inches. I can divide the 4464 by 144 which equals 31 tiles. Is this correct?

How many tiles will I need when covering a floor which measures 12ft by 31ft. The tiles are 12 inches by 12 inches.
there are 12" in 1' so the tiles are 1' by 1' or 1' square.
my steps so far: 12 x 31 = 372 now since the tiles are in inches I need to convert that 372 feet into inches.
so 372 x 12 = 4464.
it isn't 372 feet. you multiplied feet by feet so it's SQUARE feet. how many SQUARE inches are in one SQUARE foot?
(or just use square feet since each tile is 1 sq ft)

So then it would be 372/25 = 14.88 so I would need 15 boxes

So it is 12 x 31 which equal ls 372. Since the tiles are 12 by 12 inches squared with 25 in a box, you 372/25 = 14.88 So you would need 15 boxes.

No. It's 12 feet by 31 feet, which equals 372 square feet. The units make a huge difference!
Since the tiles are 12 by 12 inches squared
No. They're 12 inches by 12 inches, for 144 square inches; or 1 foot by 1 foot, for 1 square foot. The units are necessary to make sense of the numbers you get!
with 25 in a box
The exercise as originally posted doesn't say anything about boxes. It asks for how many tiles. Are you supposed to be finding tiles, or boxes? If boxes, what does the original exercise really say?
you 372/25 = 14.88 So you would need 15 boxes.
If the exercise asks about boxes instead of tiles then, yes, you'd need to round up to fifteen boxes.

Yes, the original question asked how many boxes would be needed if 25 tiles are in each box. I didn't realized I left the information about "how many boxes if 25 tiles are in a box". Thanks for the reply.
