Can you help? How do you find the ratio x:y?

If 3x=4y, and y does not =0

3x/3y=4y/3y

Could you explain where the 3y came from?

You are needing to find x/y. You are given 3x = 4y.

To get "(x/y) = (something)", you need to get rid of the "3" and get a denominator of "y".

So divide both sides of "3x = 4y" by "3y", to get what you need.
