What have you tried? Where are you stuck?

You applied basic exponent rules to restate 22009 as 22008 + 1 = 2200821 = 2×22008, factored, simplified, and... then what?

$2^ 2009 - 2^ 2008 = 2^x <=> 2^ 2008 * (2 - 1) = 2^x <=>2^ 2008 = 2^x => x = 2008$
