It has been quite a while since I've worked on anything like this, and I'm hoping someone can explain the steps to me. I'm not sure how to isolate the variable. The problem is:

(x^2)/50 - x/25 = -20,000

This is a quadratic. There's lots of ways to solve for x. Try this lesson.

Try starting by doing times-50 on everything so you get x^2 - 2x = -1,000,000 Then move the -1,000,000 to the other side so you get x^2 - 2x + 1,000,000 = 0. You can always do the quadratic formula to this. Or maybe leave the million where it is and complete the square: x^2 - 2x + 1 = -999,999 so (x - 1)^2 = -999,999 so the answer is complex.
