### Help with figuring out a word problem?

Having trouble figuring out this word problem:

How many pounds of nuts worth 50 cents a pound must be mixed with 20 pounds of nuts worth 90 cents a pound to get a mixture worth 60 cents a pound?

Gone over it many times, but must not be writing the equation correctly since I'm not getting the correct answer. Could someone help me out? Really appreciate it.

### Re: Help with figuring out a word problem?

Main focus is on (sum of cost)/(total pounds)=60 cents per pound.
Let g = how many pounds of the 50 cent per pound nuts.

Fill in the expressions for numerator and denominator in the "Main focus" line. Solve for g. Take care to watch the units carefully to help avoid mistakes. Sum of cost must be "cents", and total pounds must be pounds.

Based on that, initial equation here (but start by yourself first):
Spoiler:
$\frac {50g+20 \cdot 90}{g+20}=60$
