I will guess that the above means "Solve P = A / (1 + rt) for r", as the subject line says. To clarify with LaTeX:

If so, then the first step in solving this literal equation should probably be multiplying through by the denominator to get:

. . . . .

. . . . .

Subtract the "P" to the right-hand side, and then divide both sides by "Pt" to isolate "r". :D
