simplifying expressions

Postby jburgess328 » Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:00 am

an example in my algebra text simplifies a function to (x)/(5 - 2x)
wouldnt the X in the numerator and the X in the denominator cancel each other out?

You can only "cancel" factors. Is "x" a factor of the expression "5 - 2x", or just part of one of the two terms?
