A five-volume set of books is lined up in order on a shelf

A five-volume set of books is put on a shelf, with the volumes next to each other in order. Each book has exactly 100 pages. A hungry worm starts eating on the first page of the first volume and eats his way through the last page of the volume. How many pages did he eat through?

The answer is supposed to be 302, but I'm not seeing it??

take a book and put it on the shelf with the page in and the part with the writing out. now think about where the front and back of the book are. the 1st page is on the right and the last page is on the left!!

put another book next to the 1st one. the last page of the 2nd book is next to the 1st page of the 1st book.

for the 5 books, the worm is going from the 1st page in the 1st book (so jsut that page and then going to the right) thru the 3 middle books (so all 300 of their pp) and just the last page of the 5th book. that's 302!
