Find the length of 2 sides of a triangle

I am trying to finish an assignment for my Algebra II class and I am having a challenge figuring out how to solve a problem.

I have a triangle with a known base of 12 feet and a height of 8 feet.

The triangle has the height and point perfectly centered on the 12 foot base so the (2) sides are identical in length.

I need to know how to figure out the length of the 2 unknown sides.

I would like to know the formula to solve this as well as how to solve this correctly.

If I understand you correctly, you have a half-triangle which is a right triangle, and which has legs of lengths 6 and 8.

What theorem might apply to such a triangle, for finding the length of the hypotenuse? :wink:
