If BC = x^2 - 18 and CD =x + 2, find x.

I do not understand how you get rid of the square on the x. I know how to do the rest.

A._____.B______.C_____.D_____.E is a line. C is the midpoint of both line AE and line BD.

If C is the midpoint of BD, then what does this mean about the lengths of BC and CD?

What equation, in terms of the variable x, does this give you?

Solve the resulting quadratic equation for the value of x. :wink:
