Re: Please help me with this probability question...  TOPIC_SOLVED

This one is easier to answer if you ask first what the probability of not getting caught is.
Find the probability that the first pill AND the second pill are vitamins.
One subtract that answer will tell you the probability of getting caught.

Re: I need help understanding the result of z(z-17)(Z+2)=0  TOPIC_SOLVED

When any number of factors have a product of zero at least one of them must be zero so...

z = 0 OR (z - 17) = 0 OR (z + 2) = 0

Solving these three gives you the answers of
z = 0 or z = 17 or z = -2

Re: Trig integral help  TOPIC_SOLVED

It simplifies like this:

(tanx)/(secx)
= ((sinx/cosx)/(1/(cosx))
=((sinx/cosx)*((cosx))
=sinx

It works the same way for the squared functions.

Re: how do you find the inverse?  TOPIC_SOLVED

Write the function as y = 3sqrt(x-8)/4 then switch x and y and resolve for y.
In other words, solve for y in the equation x = 3sqrt(y-8)/4

Some useful information is here and here.

Re: simplify the expression  TOPIC_SOLVED

simplify the expression 4ab(sqrt2b)-3a(sqrt18b^3)=7ab(sqrt6b) I assume your question is: Simplify 4ab(sqrt(2b))-3a(sqrt(18b^3))=7ab(sqrt(6b)) In that case square both sides. The left side is of the equation is complicated but if you square it using (x - y)^2 = x^2 -2xy + y^2 you will find that for ...

Re: write the quadratic equation  TOPIC_SOLVED

Given a quadratic in the form y = ax^2 + bx + c the sum of the roots is -b/a and the product of the roots is c/a.

Since -b/a = 3/4 make b = -3 and a = 4

Now c/a = -2 but a = 4 so c/4 = -2 and c = -8

y = 4x^2 -3x -8

Re: rectangle perim. 58 in., length is 19 in more than width  TOPIC_SOLVED

Please help having a difficult time solving this problem! The perimeter of a rectangle is 58 inches. The length exceeds the width by 19 inches. Find the length and width. The formula for perimeter is P = 2L + 2W You know that P = 58 and W + 19 = L Replace the L in the first equation with (W + 19) S...

Re: Determine Domain and range  TOPIC_SOLVED

If I understand your question correctly, it is find the domain and range of f(x) = -5x^2 + 80 A lesson on domain and range is here You question is a parabola that opens downward. We know this because of the negative sign in front of the five. The domain is all allowed values of x which in this case ...

Re: simplify the expression  TOPIC_SOLVED

To clarify, this was the question Simplify: 4ab sqrt{2b} - 3 sqrt{18 b^3} = 7ab sqrt{6b} And yes, we are simplifying an equation. The first step is: (4ab sqrt{2b} - 3 sqrt{18 b^3})^2 = (7ab sqrt{6b})^2 If you are careful with the algebra, you can eliminate all the radicals. In fact, ...

Re: Name the property that justifies each statement  TOPIC_SOLVED

I assume this question is part of a larger assignment because your question doesn't have variables. Variables would be letters like x, y etc.

The properties of numbers are explained here.
