...I find breaking their reading and writing into smaller components really helps students focus on their structure and organization. Providing samples and ways for students to annotate text as they read helps aide with understanding and comprehension of the material provided. ...Once I have the information I need, I decide on the best way to instruct the student with a hands-on approach. I then give students time to practice on their own, giving feedback or assistance when needed. Finally, I like to give an informal and brief assessment about what the student learned, what they thought was interesting, and a question they have moving forward. (read more)
