Michael E. ...There are two math portions on this test: Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge. The Arithmetic Reasoning portion contains word problems, while the Mathematics Knowledge portion contains algebra and geometry problems, which may or may not start off as a word problem. Currently, no calculator is allowed, so mental calculations, and tricks for simplifying are very useful.

In the past I have tutored both adults and elementary aged children; but I prefer to work with children because children do not muffle their moments of epiphany nor mask their confusion. A child would clearly say “I don’t get it” and I appreciate that because it tells me that he/she is paying attention and I can clear up any misunderstandings.
