Julie H. ...I don't think math classes are usually taught well in school, so getting some extra personal help is a great idea! The biochemical work that I've done during and since getting my PhD has required extensive use of bacteria. We use strains of bacteria in the lab for techniques such as cloning and over-expression of protein.
