...My method is to recognize the problem, drill the student on the various meanings of tested vocabulary words, and how they can expect to see them used. At the same time, I encourage the habits that enabled earlier generations to learn their vocabulary--reading, writing, and dictionary skills. ...I spend time going over deadlines in detail and talking to them about early decision, early action, and rolling admissions. I tell my students to work on their essays and the Common Application during the summer so that once the school year starts, they have that much less to do.
