John B. ...Counting the atoms of each in the formula, the formula mass shoud equal: the atomic mass of Na *(one; the number of Na atoms), then caclulate the same for 2 C atoms, 3 H atoms, and two O atoms. This calculation is 1*23 + 2*12 + 3*1 + 2*16 = 82 g NaC2H3O2 / 1 mole NaC2H3O2. The mole calculation: 250 g NaC2H3O2 * ( 1 mole / 82 g ) = 3.1 moles of NaC2H3O2.
