Barbara J H. ...The problem occurs when the student does not get exposed to phonics in the early grades, or there is a problem understanding the concepts. It has been my policy, so far,to only tutor high school students who usually have a good understanding of spelling basics. Sometimes, though not too often, I get a student whose spelling tells me that phonics was not taught or mastered.
