I expect a student to have notes and examples of the instructor's preferred methods, as applicable. I expect students to work problems during the time I work with them; that is essential for the student's retention. Proactive students have the best success.

Especially in mathematics, there is nothing better than practice. After reviewing a concept, I will have the student complete several practice problems and we will continue this throughout the lesson.
