Jim B. ...As a former 1st grade teacher, one of my responsibilities was to help students learn how to encode and decode words. This was done using a variety of methods from utilizing technology to "sound pounding" (kinesthetic strategy) to good old-fashioned worksheets once in awhile. Making games out of it was another popular and effective way to teach these skills.
