Gloria F. ...This was done in September, 2014. I prefer to do a skills assessment to pinpoint troublesome areas in math and/or reading and Language Arts. Establishing rapport with a student helps with a student's motivation to learn, so I prefer a one-on-one setting in the home or at a library--especially early in the tutoring sessions.
