Ray D. ...Ray Recently, my 2nd grade class worked on using double consonants. The lesson involved a simple rule (we don't worry about exceptions with the younger grades): A short vowel word gets a double consonant when you add -ed or -ing. A long vowel word gets a single consonant when adding -ed or -ing.
